Tatiana Ershova

Tatiana was born in 1958 in Moscow on the Lenin (Vorobyovy) Hills.

She has extensive experience in practical management of small and large professional teams, preparation and implementation of conceptual documents, large-scale programs and projects. Founder and head (1998-2020) of the Institute of the Information Society. Prior to the establishment of the Institute, she worked for 12.5 years in the library field, moving from an ordinary employee to the deputy director of the Russian State Library (RSL); during 1996 she headed the RSL as acting director.

From October 8, 2017 to October 8, 2020 she was the director of the National Center for Digital Economy at Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), and also headed the Big Data Storage and Analytics Center, the latter being one of the centers of the National Technology Initiative, which was created on the basis of MSU.

She participated in the work of a number of authoritative Russian and international public professional bodies and organizations. Has numerous business contacts with Russian and foreign colleagues; acted as a speaker and organizer of several dozen workshops and conferences, including large ones and those with international participation.

An active participant in the preparation and holding of the World Summit on the Information Society and subsequent annual WSIS forums (2001-2016) as part of the Russian delegation.

Author of over 150 publications in professional publications (domestic, foreign and international) on the problems of librarianship, as well as the development of the information society and the digital economy, of which more than 70 are scientific. Among her author’s and editorial works there are several books and collections of articles.

Since 2001 she is a member of the Union of Journalists of Russia and a member of the International Federation of Journalists. Since 2009 she has been editor-in-chief of the scientific and analytical journal “Information Society”, which is included in the list of periodicals recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation for publishing master’s and doctoral dissertation research materials in several research disciplines; since 2015, the journal has been part of the Russian Science Citation Index on the Web of Science platform. 

Tatiana was educated at the Maurice Thorez Moscow State Pedagogical Institute (now the Moscow Linguistic University) and at the Higher Library Courses at the RSL. She improved her professional qualifications in many countries of the world, in particular at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign, USA).

Candidate of Economic Sciences, specialty 08.00.05 “Economics and National Economy Management (Innovation Management)”.

She has a government award: honorary title and breastplate “Master of Communications”.

Tatiana is fluent in German and English, knows the basics of Italian and Latin.

Tatiana is married, has three adult children (Alexandra, born in 1980; Konstantin, born in 1981; Peter, born in 1983) and five grandchildren (Taisia, born in 2003; Nikolai, born in 2005; Milena, born in 2009; Pavel, born in 2012 and Ivan, born in 2015).

Her hobby is dancing – she has an extensive repertoire in a number of folk dance genres, as well as in the genres of “fusion” and “dance show”. Performs under the pseudonym Qvarta Roma. Winner of many awards including 202 awards of the highest dignity: 22 grand prix, 3 World Cups according to WADA, gold medals and diplomas of the 1st degree laureate of city, regional, national and international competitions. Since 2018 Tatiana is a certified dancer of the All-Russian Dance Organization.
